Getting Started
If you are linked to groups in your MIS, your classes will be displayed on your Dashboard (Homepage). Alternatively, you will be able to use the Search feature to search for any student at the school.
If you are to see Search icon from your Dashboard, contact your school administrator as they will be able to check the permissions for your account.
Students in your classes
1) To view the Details page of a student in the class you are already viewing, simply click on their tile.
2) To view a student in a different class, use the drop down in the top left corner to select a different class.
3) You can click on a student’s tile in any of your classes in the same way (see Step 1), to display their Details.
All students
By using the Search button from the top right, you can locate any student or class at the school.
Top Tip: For more information on the Search feature, click here. For the purposes of searching for individual students and their details, follow the above steps.
Summary
The Activity Summary is the first section you will see when you click on a student’s Details page. You will see a brief overview of each section:
- Attendance this Year: if any absences are recorded for a student throughout the year, Attendance % will automatically update to show the correct percentage. This is performed hourly.
- Conduct (Points this week or Points this year): a summary of Behaviour and Achievement points for the week and year. The Overall points will update automatically to show the total number of points the student currently has (by subtracting any behaviour points from any achievement points).
- Now & Next (Timetable): updated in real time, this will show you the class that the student should currently be in, or that they have coming up next.
Contact Details
This section will display the student’s contact information, along with information regarding their linked contacts (parents and siblings).
- This data is provided from the school’s MIS and will update automatically (overnight) when changes are made directly in the MIS.
- Helpful information includes any parental contacts and the Priority level assigned to them in your MIS.
Top Tip: Personal information regarding the student such as their Name, Date of Birth, Age, Reg and Year Group, House (where available) and any other Flags, will always be displayed in the panel on the far left of the Student Details page.
Timetable
Each student’s timetable will provide you with a view of the current week.
- Each lesson block includes the subject, teacher’s initials and classroom.
- Underneath the Timetable, you will see a list of teachers that will help you identify the initials of the class teachers in a particular student’s timetable.
Attendance
The Attendance page provides a full breakdown of the student’s attendance record for the year so far.
- From the top left you will see a doughnut chart summarising the student’s attendance, as well as their proportion of absences (if any).
- From the top right, you see the number of absences, with a total percentage so far. The colour key for each type of attendance mark (Present, Late, Authorised or Unauthorised absence) refer to the colours shown in the doughnut chart, as well as the charts below.
- From the middle of the page, you will see a breakdown of attendance for the month so far. Absences are indicated by different colour blocks (see key above). You can also use the arrows in the top corner to view attendance for previous months.
- The bottom panel draws attention to any patterns of absences/lateness by days in the week and whether it occurred during AM/PM Registration. For example, if a student was consistently late for Monday AM registration, you would be able to spot this quickly.
Behaviour
If the student is given any behaviour points, this tab will show you information including any actions that have, or need, to be taken (e.g. given a detention).
- Behaviour points given to the student will be displayed for the week, term, and academic year so far.
- Behaviour events by activity breaks down the points that were recorded for the student per subject (e.g. English, Maths, History) to help you identify any patterns of behaviour.
- Behaviour events by day cross references behaviour events by day of the week with school subjects. This may help you to notice any patterns of behaviour.
- If the student has been given any detentions, this will be displayed under Behaviour Record. You can click the
icon from the far right of any behaviour record to view more details.
- Simply click Back from the top right to go back to Student Details.
Detentions
- Detentions will be summarised at the top of the page, providing you with a breakdown of detentions by week, term and year.
- Upcoming Detentions will display any detentions the student has yet to attend.
- Detentions by Type breaks down the types of detentions that the student is being given.
- Detentions by Activity also helps track patterns. You will see a summary of the activities students have been asked to complete during their detentions.
- You can click
the icon from the far right of any Detention Record to view more details.
Achievement
The Achievement section is displayed in the same format as Behaviour.
- From the top, any achievement points will be organised into points that have been assigned to the student this week, term, and academic year so far.
- Any records of achievement will be displayed, and you can click the
icon from the far right of each record to view it in full.
- Achievements are also cross referenced by subject and days of the week, at the bottom of the page. This can help you to identify subjects the student may be excelling in, as well as looking at whether performance seems to be better on certain days of the week.
Reports
Once academic reports are added to your MIS, they will be displayed in this section of Student Details.
Exams
Emerge also receives exam information for students from the school’s MIS and this is displayed in the Exams section of the Student Details page.
- View a list of exams the student has been entered for.
- Each exam entry includes the date, exam board, exam name, length of time and room the exam is set to take place in.
Xpressions
If your school also uses Xpressions, the integration with Emerge means that you can view any Xpressions that have been sent regarding the individual student.
- This section will show a full list of messages that have been sent home for this student via Xpressions. Simply scroll down to load more messages.
- Alternatively, use the Filter button at the top of the page to narrow down the type of Xpressions you would like to view.
