Taking Dinner Registers in Emerge

Once you have enabled Dinner Register functionality via the Emerge Management Console your users can record students' dinner choices at the same time as recording AM session attendance.

The dinner register is accessed by selecting the centre of the row for a student in a register. If you are not familiar with the finer points of taking attendance in Emerge, we suggest you have a look at this page to help ensure you are aware of things like Sessions vs Lessons, what a 'row' is and the Anatomy of a Row.

  4. Present / Meal Type
    • These are all read from the Dinner Money module of SIMS.
    • Clicking any option in this section will
      1. Set the session attendance mark ready to be saved when the register is complete.
      2. Specify the dinner choice for that student ready to be saved when the register is complete.
      3. Automatically scroll to the next student.
    • The Session codes for a particular meal type are derived from SIMS.
    • Selecting 'Absent' will save a session mark as per the setting in the Emerge Management Console Site Parameters area on the settings tab. This is usually set to = Absent also.
      • If an existing mark is held in the MIS then this will be presented on the end of the 'Absent' meal type as well as being preserved in the MIS. See example below where an 'i' mark has been set...
        • DinnerReg_ExistingMISMarkSml
  5. Other Absence >

    • Once an 'Other' absence is chosen Emerge will automatically scroll to the next student.
  6. Mark Comments
    • Allows you to add notes about the attendance code, e.g. "Student was late because mother was with headteacher"
  7. Meal Comments
    • Allows you to add notes about the meal for the catering or office staff to see, e.g. "Student has forgotten packed lunch today, mum has asked if its possible for him to have a hot meal. She will bring money in tomorrow." or "Student will miss this morning's classes due to optician appointment but will require a lunch".
  8. When you get to the end of the register you will see the familiar list overview; from here simply save or edit as required.
